RelayNode - London - February 10
This week's newsletter of the best events and articles for the London blockchain industry.
Hello and good morning 🌸
Not exactly crypto but close enough.. I went to an ethics for AI and algorithms workshop by Alice Thwaite this week and it was amazing. Highly recommend to all those of you working on projects aiming to facilitate systemic shifts! See here for the workshops.
I'm headed to DAS London on Monday then ETHDenver for the #BUIDLathon so feel free to hit me up if you are as well.

Things to read
A group lead by IDEO CoLab and Decentral Park Capital released this monster report on the state of crypto adoption of crypto. It's beautiful, concise and ridiculously informative. If you just want the tl;dr see this thread but if you've read (and I highly recommend so) and if you're keen to discuss, ponder or share something they've set up this telegram group.
The total amount of value locked in DeFi reached 1bn this week. Although this is partly driven by the price of eth rising it's also a function of increased utility, reach and adoption. However, as debated and excellently pointed out here, that whilst building censorship resistant tech is amazing, one of the most enticing aspect of DeFi is the ability to creatively collaborate, play and co-create without obligations. Financial innovation in the fiat world is subject to heavy regulation, hence the tools and access to do so are reserved for a select few. DeFi is in a unique position where the open source-ness and community driven nature enables innovation and hence to creation to be decoupled profit, PMF, company-wide goals etc. And as pointed out we're starting to reach a level of capital, participation and sophistication that is enabling incredible creative solutions to shine through.
A DeFI London regulatory discussion group is forming. Its aim is to find way to best engage with current regulation and the EU consultation. Reply to this email you'd like to be put in touch with organisers. Or if you'd like to dedicate your full-time to regulation FCA is hiring a crypto intelligence associate.
